At 123.ie, we believe that simple in smarter. So instead of suggesting Caribbean cruises or connecting flights, this summer we want you to enjoy your holidays right here in Ireland.
It’s easy to overlook the beauty of our country, especially when most of the time we’re reaching for an umbrella to shield us from the wind and rain. But when the sun is shining, we believe that there’s no place like home and to help you make the most of your summer, we’ve put together a dreamy road trip that will bring you along some of Ireland’s most beautiful routes – and you don’t have to worry about fitting all your belongings into a carry-on suitcase!
Destination Titanic
Titanic Belfast is the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience. Located in the former shipyard in the Titanic Quarter where the ship was originally built, you’ll immediately be immersed into the history of this tragic voyage. With nine galleries to explore, the Titanic Discovery Tour and even an option to indulge in Afternoon Tea, there is so much to see and do here and only a couple of hours drive from the country's capital!
The Dark Hedges
Only 1 hour in the car from Belfast and you’ll be welcomed into The Dark Hedges, recently made famous by the ever-popular Game of Thrones series.
The Dark Hedges is a roadway of beech trees, originally planted in the 1700’s by James Stuart in hopes of impressing his guests as they arrived to his humble abode – Gracehill House. Not only did they impress his visitors at the time, but they have continued to do so with countless of tourists flocking to the scene for a quick selfie on any given day.
Torr Head
From The Dark Hedges, Torr Head is only a half an hour spin in the car and in our opinion, is definitely worth the trip! Standing on top of the cliff you have spectacular views over the Mull of Kintyre and the sound of crashing waves for miles. To get here, you’ll travel the rugged coast to Ballycastle and then to this scenic gem which is the perfect time for a photo op. For some reason, it tends to be very quiet, often times you’ll have the place to yourself. So get there soon before this hidden treasure is discovered.
Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge
Now we’re talking, this is where the true magic is! Perched almost 100 feet above the rocks below and stretched 20 metres wide, crossing this rope bridge will make you feel more alive than ever. From Torr Head, this tourist attraction is just a short half hour drive and you’ll be rewarded with breath-taking views and an exciting journey over the caves, which were once the homes of boat builders below, not to mention the stunning views of Rathlin Island and Scotland.
Last but not least!
What you’ve all been waiting for, our final stop – The Giant’s Causeway! Nestled on the North Coast of Ireland, The Giant’s Causeway is the result of an ancient volcanic eruption, and boasts an unusual yet beautiful landscape. Stand on the cliffs that beam over this stunning site and you’ll be looking down on thousands of columns, stumbling down into the Atlantic Ocean. Legend has it that Ireland’s Fionn Mac Cumhaill (a giant) built a pathway of stepping-stones to reach Scotland’s Benandonner (another giant), who then destroyed the pathway in anger, leaving the remnants which we now call The Giant’s Causeway. Is it true? Maybe not, but it definitely adds to the magic that you feel when you take a stroll on these giant stepping-stones!
So there you have it, the perfect summer holiday right here in Ireland. Whether you stretch this journey out to 4-5 days, staying in a cosy B&B each night, or you dream of seeing it all in one day, we wish you a safe and happy holiday. And with Car Insurance from 123.ie, we’ll be with you every step of the way!
