Am I covered to drive someone else’s car?
Your 123.ie car insurance policy may allow you to drive someone else’s car under the Driving Other Cars (DOC) extension, but only if explicitly stated on your Certificate of Motor Insurance. Restrictions apply, such as the car not being owned by your employer, business partner, or spouse, and having valid insurance elsewhere.
For more details, read our guide: Can I drive someone else's car on my insurance?
How do I change the car on my insurance policy?
To change the car on your 123.ie insurance policy, log into the My123 portal or call customer support. You may need to provide details about the new vehicle and pay an additional premium if applicable. Your updated documents will be issued once the change is processed.

What is Third Party Liability?
Third Party Liability covers your legal responsibility for injury or damage caused to others while using your vehicle or property. This includes compensation for bodily injury, property damage, and legal fees.
Learn more about what’s covered under your 123.ie policy here: What does Third Party Liability cover in car insurance?.
How do I prove my No Claims Bonus?
To prove your No Claims Bonus (NCB), you need an official No Claims Bonus Certificate from your current or previous insurer. This document confirms the number of claim-free years on a policy in your own name.
Your previous insurer may have included this in your renewal pack. If not, you must request a copy. The NCB must be from a private car policy in Ireland or the UK and earned within the last two years.
Submit your NCB to 123.ie via:
- Online upload – My123 Portal
- Email – motor@123.ie
- Post – 123.ie, RSA House, Dundrum, Dublin 16
Failure to provide proof may result in policy cancellation. For more details, visit How can I prove my No Claims Bonus?.
What is the definition of social, domestic & pleasure (SD&P) use?
Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD\&P) use covers personal driving, including commuting, shopping, visiting friends, and leisure activities. It does not include business use or driving for work-related purposes.
To ensure you have the correct cover, check your policy details here: What does social, domestic & pleasure (SD\&P) mean?.

What does Beyond Economic Repair (BER) mean?
Beyond Economic Repair (BER) means the cost of repairing your vehicle is higher than its market value before the damage. In this case, your insurer will declare it a total loss and offer a settlement based on its pre-accident value.
You may also decide to repair your car, but keep in mind you may be required to get a certificate of road worthiness from a qualified engineer before cover can be put back in place.
For more details, see What is Beyond Economic Repair (BER)?.
Am I covered for business use?
Your car insurance policy may cover business use, but it depends on the type of cover you have. If your policy includes business use, you are covered for work-related travel (Class 1).
Class 1 does not cover:
- Carrying goods for hire or reward (e.g., courier, delivery services)
- Carrying passengers for hire or reward (e.g., taxi, chauffeur services)
- Door-to-door commercial sales or order solicitation
Check your Certificate of Motor Insurance or contact 123.ie Customer Care at 01 524 6029 to confirm your coverage. If you want to learn more about the specific types of cover, visit Does my insurance cover me for business use?.
How do I get a copy of my No Claims Bonus?
