Am I covered to drive someone else’s car?
Your 123.ie car insurance policy may allow you to drive someone else’s car under the Driving Other Cars (DOC) extension, but only if explicitly stated on your Certificate of Motor Insurance. Restrictions apply, such as the car not being owned by your employer, business partner, or spouse, and having valid insurance elsewhere.

What is the definition of social, domestic & pleasure (SD&P) use?
Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD\&P) use covers personal driving, including commuting, shopping, visiting friends, and leisure activities. It does not include business use or driving for work-related purposes.

Am I covered for business use?
Your car insurance policy may cover business use, but it depends on the type of cover you have. If your policy includes business use, you are covered for work-related travel (Class 1).
Class 1 does not cover:
- Carrying goods for hire or reward (e.g., courier, delivery services)
- Carrying passengers for hire or reward (e.g., taxi, chauffeur services)
- Door-to-door commercial sales or order solicitation

Am I covered to drive my car abroad?
Yes, your 123.ie Car Insurance covers driving in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK with full policy benefits.
In EU countries, you have the minimum legal cover, but you can extend full cover for up to 30 days at no extra cost by notifying 123.ie before your trip.
For non-EU countries, a Green Card may be required. Breakdown Assistance is only available in Ireland.

Am I covered to tow a trailer or caravan?
Yes, your 123.ie car insurance policy provides third-party liability cover for towing a trailer or a disabled vehicle, as long as you're legally allowed to tow.
However, this cover only applies to damage or injury caused to others—there’s no cover for loss or damage to the trailer itself or its contents. Make sure your trailer meets all legal and safety requirements before hitting the road.

What does Key Care cover?
Keycare covers replacement costs if your car or home keys are lost, stolen, or accidentally locked inside your home or car. It includes locksmith charges, new keys, and replacement locks.

What is my Policy Excess?
Your policy excess is the initial amount you're required to pay towards any claim. Excess varies by policy type—€300 for Car Insurance, from €250 for Home Insurance, and between €0–€300 for Travel Insurance.

Am I covered to drive if I've just had surgery?
Yes, you’re covered to drive after surgery—including procedures like a caesarean—once your doctor confirms you're fit to drive. There's no need to inform us directly, but make sure your doctor has given clear approval. Recovery times vary, so follow your doctor's advice closely.

Am I covered for scuba diving?
Yes, your Travel Insurance covers scuba diving, but some conditions and exclusions apply. Check your policy details carefully to ensure you're fully aware of what's covered before diving. You can also get in touch with a Customer Care representative by sending an email to Info@123.ie. Happy diving!
Is open driving cover available?
No, 123.ie Car Insurance policies do not include open driving cover. Our cover applies to the policyholder and any named drivers listed on the policy.
If you need to add a driver, you can do so permanently or temporarily (for up to 37 days) through your My123 account.

Is accidental damage covered under my buildings insurance?
Yes, accidental damage to buildings is included as standard in our owner-occupied and holiday Home Insurance policies.
This means that incidents such as accidentally putting your foot through the attic ceiling or unintentionally hammering a nail through a pipe in the wall would be covered.
Please note that accidental damage cover is not included in our landlord insurance policies.

Am I covered for personal injury?
Yes, your Car Insurance policy includes unlimited cover for personal injury to any third party under the Liability to Others section. If you have a Comprehensive policy, it also includes personal accident benefits and accident & emergency cover.
For Home Insurance customers, liability to others covers up to €3,000,000 for injuries to third parties on your property, provided you or a household member are found legally liable.

Am I covered to carry passengers in my car?
Yes, you're fully covered to carry passengers in your car for social, domestic, and pleasure journeys. However, your car policy doesn't cover passengers carried for payment or as part of your job description. If your work involves carrying passengers, your current policy won't apply.

What does my Car policy cover me for?
At 123.ie, we offer two types of Car Insurance coverage: Comprehensive and Third Party, Fire & Theft.

Comprehensive cover helps if your car gets damaged in an accident. It also includes fire and theft, third-party liability, windscreen repair, personal accident benefits, and 24/7 breakdown assistance.

Third Party, Fire & Theft cover includes liability to others and loss or damage to your car due to fire or theft.

Am I covered for my mobility scooter?
No. Mobility scooters aren’t covered under any of our Car Insurance policies, even if they’re stolen or damaged while in your car.
They’re also not covered under Home Insurance, even when stored inside your home. The liability to others section of your policy won’t cover injury or damage caused by using a mobility scooter, either.

Am I covered for items taken outside of my home?
Yes, with 123.ie, you can cover personal items outside your home in two ways:
- By adding optional 'All Risks' cover to your Home Insurance
- Through the Personal Belongings cover included in our Comprehensive Car Insurance.

Do you cover motorbikes?
123.ie currently does not offer insurance for motorbikes under our Car Insurance policies. Feel free to contact us if you need any help with finding suitable alternatives.
Am I covered to drive if I have a medical condition?
Inform your Licensing Authority of any medical condition affecting your driving. Once they've confirmed your licence status, contact our Customer Care team at 01 524 6029 or Info@123.ie to update your policy details.
Also, notify us about car modifications related to your condition, detailing the changes and the modification company involved. Sometimes, we might need an engineer's report. If restricted to modified vehicles, your 'driving other cars' extension could be removed
I got an error when buying online, am I covered?
If your payment to 123.ie goes through successfully, your cover kicks off from the start date and time you selected. You’ll see a confirmation screen showing the amount paid and thanking you for your purchase.

What optional benefits are available on car insurance?
You can choose to add No Claims Discount Protection to your Car Insurance policy. This optional extra is available on both Third Party, Fire & Theft and Comprehensive cover for an additional premium.
With No Claims Discount Protection, you can make one claim in a three-year period without losing your discount.

Do I have car legal assist?
We no longer offer Legal Assist on our Car Insurance policies. It was previously available as an optional extra. If you added it when you took out your policy, you'll see it listed in the policy benefits section of your insurance schedule. How do I add Legal Assist to my policy?
