Home Insurance - My Policy Cover

My property is unoccupied. Am I still covered?

If your home is unoccupied for up to 45 days, your cover remains unchanged. However, if it is unoccupied for more than 45 days, certain coverages will be affected.

For example, theft, attempted theft, and vandalism are not covered once the property has been unoccupied for longer than 45 days.

What is my Policy Excess?

Your policy excess is the initial amount you're required to pay towards any claim. Excess varies by policy type—€300 for Car Insurance, from €250 for Home Insurance, and between €0–€300 for Travel Insurance.

Am I covered for damage or injury caused by my pets?

Your 123.ie Home Insurance covers injury or property damage caused by your pet (dogs, cats, ponies, or saddle horses) under Liability to Others. Dangerous dog breeds must be muzzled and controlled.

Is accidental damage covered under my contents insurance?

Accidental damage cover for contents is an optional add-on to our Home Insurance policies, available for an additional premium during policy setup, renewal, or within the 14-day cooling-off period.

What is all risks cover?

All Risks Cover is an optional extra for Home Insurance, protecting specified and unspecified personal items against loss, damage, or theft when outside your home, including up to 45 days worldwide cover annually.

Is accidental damage covered under my buildings insurance?

Yes, accidental damage to buildings is included as standard in our owner-occupied and holiday Home Insurance policies.

This means that incidents such as accidentally putting your foot through the attic ceiling or unintentionally hammering a nail through a pipe in the wall would be covered.

Please note that accidental damage cover is not included in our landlord insurance policies.

Am I covered for personal injury?

Yes, your Car Insurance policy includes unlimited cover for personal injury to any third party under the Liability to Others section. If you have a Comprehensive policy, it also includes personal accident benefits and accident & emergency cover.

For Home Insurance customers, liability to others covers up to €3,000,000 for injuries to third parties on your property, provided you or a household member are found legally liable.

Am I covered to have someone rent a room in my home?

Yes, your Home Insurance policy automatically includes cover for up to six paying guests staying in your home at the same time (provided your home is your Main Private Dwelling and you’ve notified us). You don’t need to inform us when you have guests.

What optional benefits are available for Home Insurance?

123.ie offers these optional benefits to enhance your Home Insurance:

  1. Accidental Damage for Contents – Covers unintentional damage to home contents, such as spills on carpets or broken furniture.

  2. All Risks Cover – Protects personal belongings against loss, damage, or theft outside the home, with worldwide coverage for up to 60 days annually.

How do I add a bicycle to my policy?

To make sure your bike is covered away from home, you’ll need to add it as a specified item to your Home insurance policy. Just call our Customer Care team on 01 524 6029 with the make, model, serial number and value. An extra charge may apply depending on the details.

Am I covered for my mobility scooter?

No. Mobility scooters aren’t covered under any of our Car Insurance policies, even if they’re stolen or damaged while in your car.

They’re also not covered under Home Insurance, even when stored inside your home. The liability to others section of your policy won’t cover injury or damage caused by using a mobility scooter, either.

Am I covered for items taken outside of my home?

Yes, with 123.ie, you can cover personal items outside your home in two ways:

  1. By adding optional 'All Risks' cover to your Home Insurance
  2. Through the Personal Belongings cover included in our Comprehensive Car Insurance.

Are transportable items (mobile phones, laptops, pedal bikes etc.) covered?

Yes, transportable items are covered if your policy includes All Risks Cover. Items over €500, and certain items like laptops, mobiles, tablets, and bicycles (up to €1,500 each), must be individually specified.

Are my contents covered while moving house?

Yes, your contents are covered during removal if:

  • A professional furniture removal contractor carries it out
  • You're moving from the insured address to your new permanent home
  • Both addresses are within Ireland.

I have staff at my home. Am I covered if something happens to them?

Your Home Insurance covers legal liability for injuries to domestic employees (e.g., cleaners, child-minders, decorators) working in your home, up to €3,000,000 per claim.

This cover applies under the 'Liability to Others' section in your policy booklet, available in your policy pack or online via our policy documents. Landlord Insurance policies do not include this cover.

I got an error when buying online, am I covered?

If your payment to 123.ie goes through successfully, your cover kicks off from the start date and time you selected. You’ll see a confirmation screen showing the amount paid and thanking you for your purchase.

How do I add an item to my policy?

To add an item to your Home Insurance policy, just call our Customer Care team on 01 524 6029 or end an email to info@123.ie. Have the item’s details and value ready—we’ll let you know if there’s an additional premium. The maximum cover per item is €10,000.

Is my bicycle insured whilst stored in my shed?

Yes—your bicycle is covered under your Home Insurance policy as long as it’s stored in a securely locked shed or garage. Just like it would be if it were inside your home.

What am I covered for under my contents insurance?

Your 123.ie contents insurance covers household goods and personal items belonging to you, your household, and any domestic employees living with you, while inside your home. This includes home office equipment, valuables, clothing, and personal effects.

You're protected against sudden loss or damage from insured events like fire, theft, and flood​. To understand what’s included, what limits apply, and what isn’t covered in your Home Insurance, check your policy pack carefully.

Are parts and labour covered for emergency repairs on my Home Rescue policy?

Yes. Your Home Rescue policy covers the cost of a tradesperson's call-out, including up to one hour of labour and the necessary materials to fix the issue. There’s a limit of €200 plus VAT per claim—or €250 plus VAT if it’s a glazing emergency.

Am I covered to work from home?

Yes. With our Home Insurance, you’re covered for working from home—if your work is limited to paperwork, phone calls, or computer use. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t include commercial use, such as business visitors or storing any work-related stock at home.

My Son / Daughter is going to College. Are their possessions covered?

No. Once your child moves out to attend college, their belongings are not covered by your Home Contents Insurance. To protect items like laptops, phones, and other valuables they bring with them, they’ll need their own insurance policy.

How do I add Legal Assist to my policy?

Why do you need a valuation & what should it include?

We need a valuation form for certain Home Insurance claims to confirm an item's value. It must be recent, completed by a reputable valuer, show the item's value, and match policy details.

What am I covered for under my buildings insurance?
