What is fire and theft cover?
Fire and Theft means you’re covered for loss of or damage to your car through fire, theft, or attempted theft.
Am I covered for Fire and Theft Cover?
Fire and Theft Cover is included in our comprehensive and our Third Party Fire & Theft Car Insurance Policy. For a full summary on inclusions and exclusions, view our summary table here.
What does Fire and Theft cover?
Fire and Theft cover means we may repair or replace your car or any part of it or spare parts, or we may pay the amount of the loss or damage. Specifically, you’re covered for damage to your car and spare parts while they’re in or on your car, or in your private domestic garage, if that damage is caused by fire, theft, or attempted theft. We’ll pay up to the market value of your car at the time of the loss or damage, but no higher than the value that you declared in your policy.
Are there limits to this cover?
Yes, there are:
- If any spare part is lost or damaged and we can’t get a replacement in the Republic of Ireland, we’ll pay the cost of this part as shown in the last price list issued by the manufacturer for use in the Republic of Ireland.
- We will pay up to a limit of €500 per incident if any permanently fitted item of radio or audio equipment is damaged or stolen from your car.
- We will not pay for any repair or replacement that improves your car beyond its condition before the loss or damage occurred.
- Where your car’s keys are stolen and the theft was accompanied by violence and/or forcible entry to your permanent residence, we will pay up to €1,000 per incident for replacing vehicle door lock(s), the ignition steering transmitter, the keys and central locking interface.
Does this apply to a Hired car or Leased car?
No, if you are driving a hired or leased car, check your policy for that Hire or Lease.
