What is Breakdown Assist?

Car breakdowns happen to us all, so let’s take the worry off your shoulders.

Breakdown Assist is a 24/7 accident, emergency breakdown and home-start recovery service that’s included for all 123.ie Car Insurance clients - and using it won’t affect your no claims bonus. 

Who can use Breakdown Assist?

  • Any 123 Car Insurance policy holder on the island of Ireland – The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
  • Any drivers named on your policy (please note: it only includes the car on the policy).
  • It also comes as standard with our Comprehensive and Third Party, Fire & Theft policies.

What does Breakdown Assist cover? 

You’re covered if you can’t drive your car at home, or on the road for any of these reasons:

  • The car won’t start
  • The car is undriveable because of an accident
  • Mechanical or electrical breakdown
  • Fire
  • The car is stolen, or immobilised as a result of attempted theft
  • Malicious damage
  • Punctures that need assistance
  • If your car keys are lost, stolen, broken or locked in your car

What to do in an event of Breakdown

Just call 01 241 8572 and have the following information at hand:

  • Your exact location
  • Your car registration number
  • Your policy number
  • Your contact number

What will Breakdown Assist do for you?

If your car becomes undriveable, whether at home or on the road, call us. A highly-trained mechanic will be sent to you. 7 in 10 callouts are fixed on the spot, so you should be back on the road quickly and painlessly. If they can’t fix problem within 1 hour, they will arrange towing of your car to the nearest garage in our approved network, or a car repairer of your choice, whichever is closer.

We’ll also help you get where you need to be by covering the cost of your onward journey -and send two urgent messages on your behalf.

What if the Repairs Can’t Be Made on the Spot?

If your car breaks down or is damaged away from home and repairs can’t be made on the spot, we’ll arrange and pay for one of the following:

  • Onward transportation for you and your passengers to your home or intended destination within the island of Ireland, or
  • Use of a replacement car for up to 48 hours while repairs are carried out, or
  • Overnight accommodation for one night only while repairs to your car are in progress, to the maximum value of €35 per person and €175 in total.

 

If I’m driving a temporary vehicle, does Breakdown Assist cover me?

Did you break down driving a temporary vehicle because your car is already in for service?
Relax, we’ve still got you covered. As the policy holder driving a temporary vehicle, all you need to do is to log into your My123 account and file this yourself. 

But please remember - if you are changing to a car under 2000cc that’s been provided to you by a registered garage or vehicle repairer for up to 7 days, you don’t need to need to arrange for a temporary substitution on your policy with us, as long as:

  • The vehicle has not been modified from the standard specification in any way.
  • The vehicle is a right-hand drive.
  • The vehicle has a valid NCT (if applicable).
  • The vehicle is not used for Hire or Reward.
  • The vehicle cover is not provided by the Insurance Policy of the garage or vehicle repairer.
