Key Care is included as standard with all our Comprehensive policies. Key Care is not included Third Party, Fire & Theft policies.

What is Key Care and how does it work?

Losing your car keys can be a major headache. So we’ll help you handle the hassle with Key Care cover, included as standard with all our Comprehensive policies.

When you purchase a Comprehensive Car Insurance policy, we will send you a 123.ie key fob. Make a note of the unique ID number on the back of the fob and keep it somewhere safe, then add the fob to the rest of your keys – it’s your ticket to Key Care protection. 

What does Key Care cover?

• Lost or Stolen Keys: We cover the cost of replacing lost or stolen keys.
• All your Keys: We cover all your keys, not just your car key (subject to the T&Cs in your policy document).
• Emergency Helpline: If you’re locked out of your car or home, you can use our emergency helpline for claims, help and locksmiths. It’s available 24/7, 365 days a year. 
• Won’t Affect your No-Claims Bonus: You can claim as often as you like, with a ceiling of €1,500 per annum- which won’t affect your no-claims bonus. 
• Finders’ Reward: 123.ie will pay a €10 reward to anyone who finds your keys and reports them to us. 
• Broken Key? No Problem: If you break an insured key in a lock, we’ll pay up to €100 per claim for a replacement key and locksmith charges. 

What keys are covered by Key Care?

• You can attach your key fob to as many keys as you like - car, house, garage, office.
• You’re covered for up to 3 keys per lock.

What to do if you lose your keys? 

• Call our 24-hour emergency helpline on 01 518 1412. Have your unique key fob number ready, so we can find your policy details.
• We’ll ask you how the keys were lost or stolen, so we can help you with the best solution. 
• If the keys attached to the key fob are lost for 48 hours, you can claim for them. 
• If your keys are stolen, you can claim immediately.

Remember: Your Key Care membership and Car Insurance policy must be active at the time of loss.

FAQ’s:

If my keys are found, how do Key Care return them?

We’ll arrange for you to collect them where they were found, or at the nearest Garda station. 
If it’s more convenient, we can also return them by standard post.

If I lock myself out of my car at night, will Key Care help me?

Of course. Our emergency helpline is available 24/7. 

If my keys are lost or stolen outside Ireland, can I claim?

Yes, you can. Any keys lost or stolen in the European Union are covered once they’re attached to the key fob. You’ll have to find a locksmith - the Key Care locksmith network only covers the Republic of Ireland – but we’ll reimburse you. So keep your receipts!

Is there an excess on my Key Care policy?

No, you’re fully protected. 

If I buy a new car, do I need to let Key Care know, so my keys are covered?

No. Just add your new car keys to your key fob and you’re covered. Contact us on 01 524 6029 to transfer your policy to your new car.

Can I add Key Care to another policy?

Unfortunately not. Key Care is exclusive to your Comprehensive Car Insurance Policy.

• Attach your Key Care Fob. Keep it handy! 
• Battery Replacement: electric keys need fresh batteries every two years.  
• Faraday Pouch: For keyless car fobs, use a Faraday pouch to prevent signal interference and theft.
• Multiple Rings: Use multiple rings to organise your keys.
• Window Safety: Leave your keys out of sight of windows at home.
• Vehicle Caution: Never leave your keys in your vehicle when it’s unattended.
