What is windscreen cover?

123.ie windscreen cover is included as standard on all our Standard Motor Car Insurance policies. This benefit allows you to claim for the repair or replacement to the glass of your car due to accidental damage (excludes the car mirrors).

Am I covered for windscreen damage?

Windscreen cover is included on our Comprehensive Care Insurance policies and not on Third Party, Fire & Theft (TPFT) policies.

You can check your level of cover by referring to the policy details section of your insurance schedule.

How do I add windscreen cover to my policy?

Windscreen cover is a benefit that comes as standard on our Comprehensive policies. We do not have an option to add this to any other level of cover.

You can increase your cover to Comprehensive at your renewal date or when doing a permanent change of car on your policy.

What is included in windscreen cover?

  • Having windscreen cover allows you to make a claim to have glass on the car replaced or repaired but it does not cover the mirrors on your car.
  • In a single policy year, you can get an unlimited amount of repairs done to the glass once the total cost of these repairs does not exceed the value of your car, which you declared to us.
  • As well as repairs, windscreen cover allows for one complete replacement in any one insurance year, up to the value of €1,500.
  • If you require more than one replacement, any additional replacements will be treated the same as any other claim for accidental damage and may affect your no claims discount.

What to do if your windscreen is damaged?

If you need a repair or replacement for the glass in your car, contact our approved repairers below:

  • All Glass (01) 409 0900
  • Autoglass (01) 409 0900
  • Or you can book online: Book Online With Autoglass
  • Give them the details with your policy number and they’ll take care of everything. You can call in to them or they can send out a mobile unit to you. They handle the paperwork too!

Please note, if you do not use one of our approved repairers, the maximum amount that will be covered for a replacement is €225.

What to do if you’re out and about and your windscreen cracks:

Try not to panic. Although it’s made of glass, it is made in such a way that it will not break completely. If you can, continue on your journey. If you can’t, then call Autoglass on (01) 409 0900 from wherever you are.

If you get a small crack or chip in your windscreen, place a piece of clear tape over it to keep the chip clean until it can be repaired. This stops debris and dirt from building up within the cracks and can help with a cleaner repair later. If it’s a bigger crack and you need to pull over, then do so when it’s safe and call Autoglass. They will send a repair unit to help get you going.
