How will making a claim impact my policy?

Making a claim on your policy affects your no claims discount (NCD) differently, depending on your discount protection level. Check your policy schedule to identify your specific protection type.

How does the No Claims Discount Protection work?

  • You can make one unlimited claim within a consecutive three-year period without affecting your current no claims discount.

  • After your first claim, protection ends until you've completed three consecutive claim-free years. Protection doesn’t automatically return; you'll need to request its re-addition explicitly.

What if I have No Claims Discount Step Back?

  • Each claim reduces your existing no claims discount by three years at renewal.

  • For example, six years of no claims discount reduces to three years after one claim.

  • If two or more claims occur within one policy year, your no claims discount resets to zero.

Are home insurance claims treated differently?

Home insurance claims automatically reset your no claims discount to zero at renewal, regardless of previous claims history.

Will my premium be affected?

Even with protection, claims history can affect your renewal premium. The no claims discount percentage is protected, but your premium may still increase depending on your claim history.
