Should I make a claim?

Choosing whether to claim on your insurance can significantly affect future premiums, your no claims discount, and out-of-pocket expenses.

Although we can't advise you directly on whether to claim, we're here to clearly explain the factors involved, helping you make an informed decision.

What factors should Car Insurance customers consider?

Every Car Insurance policy includes an excess—the initial amount you must pay towards a claim. At 123.ie, the standard excesses are:

  • Comprehensive cover: €300
  • Third Party, Fire & Theft cover: €300

Your NCD might decrease after claiming. Full details are available in your policy pack and our current policy documents. Claiming can lead to increased premiums at renewal due to your updated claims history.

What should Home Insurance customers keep in mind?

When setting up your Home Insurance policy, you selected an excess amount (€250, €500, or €1000). This amount will be deducted from your claim payout. Certain claims have specific excess amounts—see your individual policy pack for details.

Any Home Insurance claim will reset your no claims discount to zero at renewal, without an option to protect it. A Home Insurance claim can result in higher premiums upon renewal, reflecting your updated claims history.

What about Travel Insurance claims?

Travel Insurance excesses vary depending on the type of claim. Specific excess details appear in your policy documents provided at purchase or renewal. Always consult your personal policy documents to confirm the excess is applicable before proceeding.
