I don’t understand my no claims bonus document

Your No Claims Bonus (NCB) document helps you see how your claims history affects your Car Insurance discount. Here’s what each section means.

What does ‘Number of Years Claims Free’ mean?

This section shows how long you’ve been the main policyholder without making a claim, up to six years. It reflects your claims-free driving record but doesn’t always match the discount applied to your premium.

How is the ‘No Claims Bonus Discount’ calculated?

This section shows the percentage discount applied to your premium based on your no-claims history. The discount may differ from your total claims-free years because:

  • The discount scale may offer different percentages for certain claims-free periods.

  • If you have No Claims Discount Protection, one claim within a three-year period won’t affect your discount. However, additional claims will reduce your No Claims Discount as per the step-back scale outlined in your policy.

  • Some claims may not impact your NCB, depending on the type of claim and your policy terms.

What is the ‘No Claims Discount Scale Applicable to Policy’?

This outlines the percentage discount available for each year of claims-free driving, typically from one to six years. It helps you understand how your discount increases with each additional claims-free year.

What does the ‘List of Claims Against the Policy Since Inception’ include?

This section lists all claims or notifications reported since your policy started. It includes both settled and ongoing claims, giving you a complete picture of your claims history.
