How do I add a second person to my Home Insurance policy?

Adding a second person to your Home Insurance policy is straightforward, but certain criteria must be met first.

When adding someone, ensure they have a genuine insurable interest in your property, especially if their name will appear on documentation issued to your mortgage provider.

Why add a joint proposer to your Home Insurance?

Adding another policyholder gives them equal rights to manage and make decisions about your policy, ideal for joint homeowners or partners sharing responsibility. This ensures their name also appears on any letter of indemnity issued to your mortgage provider, reflecting their financial interest.

What conditions must be met to add a second policyholder?

You and anyone living in your home must meet the following requirements:

  • Within the last three years, no more than one home insurance or liability claim made, whether covered by insurance or not.

  • Any previous claim(s) should not exceed a combined total of €5,000.

  • There must be no open or unsettled claims.

Neither you nor anyone else living with you can have ever:

  • Been refused insurance, or had special terms, restrictions, or conditions applied by another insurer.

  • Received a conviction or Garda caution, or have pending prosecutions involving offences such as arson, theft, fraud, robbery, handling stolen goods, or other property-related crimes.
