Why has my policy been cancelled?
At 123.ie, we might need to cancel your insurance policy for a few reasons—some are straightforward, others a bit more serious. It’s important you understand why this can happen.
When could my policy be cancelled by 123.ie or RSA?
Here are the main scenarios:
-
Cancellation at your request
If you ask us to cancel your policy, we’ll guide you through the easy process—no hassle.
-
123.ie enforced cancellation
We might cancel your policy if terms aren't met, payments are missed, or documentation isn't provided. We’ll notify you in writing, giving at least 10 days’ notice clearly stating the cancellation date.
When can RSA treat my policy as "null and void"?
RSA Insurance (the underwriter) might declare your policy "null and void" from its start date if:
- You haven’t disclosed essential information (material facts).
- You provided inaccurate or misleading information when buying your policy.
If this happens:
- You'll receive a written cancellation notice, giving 10 days’ notice.
- Future insurers may require you to declare this cancellation, potentially affecting your ability to get insurance elsewhere.
What happens if I don't renew my policy?
If your policy expires without renewal:
- You won’t have cover after the expiry date.
- We’ll send you a lapse letter confirming that your policy hasn’t been renewed.
- To stay covered, you can renew online through your My123 account or by calling our Renewals team.
